Grammostola actaeon (Black Yeti Tarantula) RARE

Grammostola actaeon (Black Yeti Tarantula)

The Black Yeti is a Brazilian beauty that takes the silky black look collectors love and turns the fluff all the way up, making it a true standout species among the others in the genus. Adults of this species have a long dense coat of black setae that gives this species its "Yeti" name, with a subtle red flush on the abdomen. Spiderlings hatch large with a slightly different coloration of a stark red abdomen and a black body and legs. As these grow with each molt their color darkens, eventually becoming the full Black Yeti coloration as adults. Do not miss your chance to grab this rare New World Tarantula for sale today.

Why do hobbyists keep Grammostola actaeon?

  • Striking Adult Coloration: silky black coloration with the rust red abdomen makes this species very unique
  • Extra Long Fluffy Coat: longer, denser setae than other Grammostola, gives the Black Yeti its signature fluffy appearance
  • Colorful Spiderlings: babies show stark red abdomen with black body and legs that develops into silky black as they grow
  • Impressive Adult Size: one of the larger Grammostola reaching 6-7" leg span at maturity
  • Beginner-Friendly Temperament: classic Grammostola docility, calm and easygoing for a New World terrestrial
  • Rare in the Hobby: not commonly available in U.S. collections, disappears fast when they do become available

How should Grammostola actaeon be kept?

  • Adult Size: Reaches 6-7 inches at full leg span. One of the larger Grammostola in the hobby.
  • Enclosure: terrestrial setup with low hide and leaf litter, dry substrate with a moisture gradient, good airflow through the enclosure. We suggest making sure the enclosure is always 2-3x legspan in width, depth and height, with soil depth at least 4 inches so they can make their enclosure more homey on their own. Bioactive is also recommended for all species. Check out our bioactive page for ideas.
  • Temperature: 65-75°F with stable conditions, cooler end preferred
  • Humidity: low to moderate, allow substrate to dry between mistings rather than keeping it consistently damp. Good ventilation is critical. Cross ventilation works best, but ample top ventilation can also be effective as long as the enclosure is not over-misted.
  • Water: shallow textured water dish at substrate level, something they can grip when climbing out
  • Diet: prey about the size of the carapace (head), crickets and roaches readily accepted

Are there any additional notes or considerations?

  • Slow Grower: takes time to reach maturity, plan accordingly when buying spiderlings
  • Captive Bred: All Tarantulas are 100% captive bred.
